Our brief was to extend and renovate an existing 100 year old cottage. The cottage is in an extremely remote location with no mains services.
The building was completely striped back to the walls, floor stripped out and the main roof structure was maintained but re-slated.
A new 150mm thick insulated timber frame structure was inserted with further bonded insulated plasterboard applied. A new concrete floor slab was constructed with 100mm insulation. The roof area insulated beyond current building standards.
The cottage was extended to add a new entrance porch which also provides lots of storage for outdoor gear. A second extension was also added to create a new living area, open plan from the dining/kitchen. This living room has feature full height corner glazing to take advantage of the fantastic views. A feature log burning stove was also added.
